Top Ten Tuesday: Hello There

This week's Top Ten Tuesday prompt from That Artsy Reader Girl is "New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2022."  Sometimes I get stuck in a rut and read mostly books by authors I'm already familiar with, but I actually tried quite a few new-to-me authors last year!  Here are ten that I would like to read more books by, plus the books I read of theirs in 2022.  I've linked to my reviews of those books, plus provided what genre they are.

John Dudley Ball -- I read In the Heat of the Night (mystery)

Colleen Coble -- I read Silent Night/Holy Night and All is Calm/All is Bright (mystery)

Susan Coolidge -- I read What Katy Did, What Katy Did at School, and What Katy Did Next (slice of life)

Anthony Hope -- I read The Prisoner of Zenda and Rupert of Hentzau (swashbuckler)

Britt Howard -- I read Song of the Valley (clean romance)

Morgan Hubbard -- I read This Cursed Line (fantasy)

Rafael Sabatini -- I read The Black Swan (swashbuckler)

Luke Short -- I read Vengeance Valley (western)

Carly Stevens -- I read Laertes (dark academia)

Candice Pedraza Yamnitz -- I read Unbetrothed (fantasy)

Have you tried any of these authors?  Are any of them on your TBR shelves?  Who did you discover last year!  Do share!

    1. Lydia, yes! I liked What Katy Did at School just as well, but the third book is my favorite of the three :-)

      Thanks for the link!

    2. Olivia, I had the Katy books sitting on my shelves for several years, then read them all while I was laid up with my broken arm. They were the perfect sort of light comfort reads!

  5. I've only read The Prisoner of Zenda out of all those but I've read a couple of Rafael Sabatinis's books that I enjoyed.
2022 brought me some new authors - Alison Weir, Mary Stewart & Georgette Heyer. I liked them enough that I'll definitely be reading more from them.
I just love that there are so many excellent authors yet to be discovered. :)

    1. Carol, oooh, which of Sabatini's books have you read? I have a few more on my shelves waiting for me because I enjoyed Black Swan so much.

I like Georgette Heyer! Well, I like her Regency romances. So frothy and fun. Haven't enjoyed her mysteries as much.

I hear good things about Mary Stewart, and I keep my eye out for her at used book stores and such.

Yes, isn't it marvelous that even when you've been reading for decades, you can still discover new authors to enjoy? I love that!

  6. What category is slice of life? I love it.

    1. Ivy Miranda, "slice-of-life" books are the ones where you just kind of follow the characters through their day-to-day lives. They have little adventures in each chapter, but there's not one central plot to the book. So, think Anne of Green Gables and Caddie Woodlawn and Cranford and The Railway Children. Here's the Wikipedia definition, if that helps.

  7. I read What Katy Did a long time ago when I was a kid, but I remember enjoying it. My sister is actually called Katy and my mum mentioned that this was one she liked as a kid too so I wonder if that's where the name idea came from!

    1. Heartland, oh, that's cool that your mom might have gotten your sister's name from the Katy books! They are charming. (My daughters have the middle names 'Anne' and 'Jane' for Anne Shirley and Jane Eyre, so I completely understand naming people after book characters!)

  8. Haven't read all those writers, but Prisoner of Zenda has been on my list, though now I'm more interested in The Black Swan. :))
