Announcing the Sixth Annual Tolkien Blog Party

Sorry this announcement is a bit late.  But yes!  I will be hosting my annual Tolkien Blog Party for the sixth year.  I assure you I am greatly looking forward to it.  I hope you are too!

As usual, I'll have a questionnaire tag for you to fill out, some games, a book review or two, and a giveaway.  This year, it will run from Saturday, Sept. 22 (Bilbo and Frodo's birthday, and always observed as Hobbit Day) to Saturday, Sept. 29.

Here are a few blog buttons I've worked up for the occasion -- share them on your own blogs or other social media accounts to spread the word!  We always have such a merry time during this blog party, and I look forward to it all year.

See you there!

  1. You know that lady in the vine who finds out she gets a free taco at Taco Bell, and she lets out this really annoying pterodactyl screech of "yaaaAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!"? Literally my mental reaction when I saw this post in the Blogger reading list. ;-P

I'd actually thought about this recently, so yay!! I'm excited :)

    1. Olivia, nope, I don't know that lady. But that's really funny that you reacted that way :-)

I kept meaning to post about it, but the book and book tour consumed all my computer time for like a month. Starting to ease up now, though, and I can think about other things!

  2. I’ve always wanted to join in, but I’ve only read The Hobbit

    1. Ivy Miranda, that's totally fine! It's even open to people who have only watched the movies and not read the books. Or who have only read one book, or watched one movie, or whatever. You don't have to reach a certain level of Tolkien-fan-ness to participate!

    1. Gabby, it's one of my favorite times too! I've been gradually collecting up giveaway prizes (and I ordered a few online this weekend) and generally getting ready for it, but it wasn't until this weekend that I finally had time to sit down and made buttons, write up a post, etc. Going to be such fun!!!

  4. This sounds really great, but I was just wondering if people who only read part of the series could join in too.
I've only read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. I can't find the other parts. Does that mean you can't join or doesn't it matter?

    1. Ruth, you ABSOLUTELY CAN join in! It's totally open to people who have only read a little of Tolkien. And to those who have read everything. And to people like me, who fall in the middle.

It's even open to people who have only watched the movies based on his books ;-) I have NO rules about who can participate!

I see from your blog profile you're Dutch? So cool! I'm half Dutch!

Anyway, if you're having trouble getting copies of the rest of LOTR to read, allow me to introduce you to a marvelous person called the Tolkien Fairy Bookmother. She has a blog right here and she helps people all over the world find copies of Tolkien's books. Definitely drop her a line via her website and let her know you're having trouble finding The Two Towers and Return of the King where you live, and she'll help you out.

    2. And Ruth, if for some reason the Tolkien Fairy Bookmother can't help you out, I probably can. My local used bookstore often has used copies of LOTR paperbacks.

  9. Well, this is extra exciting this year because I've finally gotten around to reading the books!! I don't know if I can contribute, but I am looking forward to reading all the LotR themed posts everyone else puts out! :)

    1. Elanor, that's so fun! This is a pretty low-key blog party as far as participating. I put out some games for people to play, lots of people fill out the tag on their own blogs, and I host a giveaway. I usually review a Tolkien-themed book or two. That's about it!

  10. I have never parcitipated in one of these, as this is the first year I have really cared for reading blogs, but I always re-read The Hobbit starting September 22nd- which, interestingly enough, is not only the anniversary of Bilbo and Frodo's birthday, but also the anniversary of the day I began reading it for the first time, five years ago (when I was 12). Of course I didn't know it was their birthday, I just wanted to start fall off with a new book. I will definitely be joining this year!

    1. Victoria, that's a fun tradition! I often start reading LOTR right around Christmas because I first got into it thanks to the first movie coming out in December of 2001.

Glad to have you join the fun!

    2. Hi! I found your blog through Cleo's blog (Classical Carousel). I don't have a blog (I just use GoodReads at the moment) but I'm planning to start one soon. I'd love to join in for this event!

    3. Hi, Beth! So cool that you can join us this year! Even if you don't have a blog, you're still welcome to participate in the games and the giveaway :-) And if you have a blog up and running by then, you can do the tag too!
