Upcoming Events

Time to do a post about all the cool stuff I'll be participating in soon.  I know I have buttons in my sidebar for them, but I want to talk a bit more about them too.

First up is Beauty and the Beast Week hosted by Meredith at On Stories and Words.  I'll be reviewing Gaston Leroux's classic novel The Phantom of the Opera for this.  This is next week!!!

Next, Joseph at The Once Lost Wanderer is hosting the Mini March Reading Tag.  Whether you want to read something by all three authors, or just one or two of them, it's a fun way to band together around these three wonderful authors.  You know I'm a big fan of all three, so there's no way I would miss it!  Not sure yet just what I'll read for this, though.

And third, I'm participating in the Adventure of Reading Challenge hosted by Heidi at Along the Brandywine.  I've signed on for the Wrangler Level, which means I aim to read 10-12 books before the end of the year.  Specifically, I intend to read Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck by Stephen Lawhead, Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome, The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and then whatever else I please.

Which brings me to my final announcement.  I haven't set a start date yet, but I'm definitely going to host a read-along of The Great Gatsby this summer!

    1. MC, we'll see how much I like the first one. I'm mostly reading it to see if my 9-year-old would like it. He's read Colfer's fairy tale compendium and liked it.

      Yes! Gatsby!

    1. Ruth, you've got quite a while to decide one way or the other :-) I will not be starting this before June.

    2. I'm reading Reading Lolita in Tehran and the author is describing her time with The Great Gatsby, and my heart just keeps desiring it again. I think - unless something outrageous happens before then, I'm going to join you for sure. I also plan to read This Side of Paradise, but before summer or after, I'm not sure, yet.

    3. Ruth, intriguing! I didn't know it got mentioned in that.

Have you read This Side of Paradise before? I found that one much more depressing than Gatsby.

  3. Thanks for mentioning my BatB week! I'm a little nervous since I've never done this before, but I'm sure it will go well. :)

Ooh, I hope I can participate in the Great Gatsby read-along.

    1. Evangeline, yeah, and I've got two movie-oriented blogathons I'm participating in with my other blog too. Eeep!

YAY! Very excited you'll be in for the Gatsby read-along. It only has 9 chapters, so a good size for a summer read. Still looking at how my summer schedule will shake out before I figure out dates.

  5. Yayy... The Great Gatsby read-along!

You know, from the beginning of the year I have planned to read Gatsby on June. Not only the novel, but also 2 companion books about Gatsby.

Soooo excited to learn that you are hosting a read-along! I am most definetely in! Just waiting for your fixed date, so I can adjust my schedule too.

This would be a lot of fun! Thanks, Hamlette! ^_^

    1. Fanda, that's great that your timing and mine will coincide so nicely! Which two other books are you planning to read?

    2. Yes, Hamlette, that's why I was so exciting when I read this post.
The other books are So We Read On by Maureen Corrigan and Careless People by Sarah Churchwell. Both seem very interesting, from the synopsis and reviews.

    3. I've heard of both of those! In fact, I think they might be on my TBR list.

I haven't made an "official announcement" yet, but I'm planning to start the Gatsby read-along on June 1 and wrap it up by the end of the month.
