The Tolkien Blog Party is ON!

Encouraged by so many of you, I am pleased to announce that, despite my super busy September schedule, I AM going to host a Tolkien blog party after all!  I've got ideas for the blog tag and one game, and a handful of fun prizes that I'm making myself.

And so, I've made some new buttons that y'all can add to your own blogs if you so desire.  Things will kick off on Sunday, September 18, and wrap up on Saturday.

I'm looking forward to sharing all the Tolkien love!

  2. I've just started reading The Hobbit to my 11 yr old - the first time for me also, believe it or not! I'm beginning to love the fellow, so would like to join in regardless of my meagre knowledge.

  3. This is one of the best things in my blogging life, so great that you're doing this again! :) I just handed down my Finnish edition of The Hobbit to my niece – she's just two months old now but I'm planning to introduce her to all of my favourite books when the time comes. I actually just wrote a blog post where I pondered about what The Lord of the Rings (among other books) meant to me when I read it growing up. Also, I recall having a bit of a trouble copying the blog buttons so that they actually work (I'm a bit of a dummy with these things) so how DO they work? :D

    1. Awwww, Manette, thank you! I actually read The Hobbit out loud to my son when he was a month old, bits here and there whenever he was nursing. Perhaps that's why, when we gave him a copy for his 8th birthday, he read it through twice in one day? ;-)

Anyway, the buttons. I know for the first two parties I created html code that would let you install the buttons with a link and everything, just by copying the code, but... coding is not my strong point, and it was always an arduous task. So what you do for these is, you right-click on them and hit "Save image as" to save them to your computer. Then go to your Blogger dashboard, to the Layout section. Click on "add a gadget" wherever it is you want the button to appear (ie a sidebar), then select "Image" as the gadget you want to add. Where it says "Choose File" you find the Tolkien button file on your computer, wherever you saved it, and it'll upload for you. I highly recommend clicking the "Shrink to fit" box because I didn't pay attention to sizing on these and they're all over the place. Then if you want it to link here, copy the URL of this post (or just the blog's address) and put that in the "Link" box. Give it a title, hit the orange "Save" button, and you're good to go!

(And if that was WAY more info than you needed, sorry! I've been tutoring someone in how to use Blogger and have gotten in the habit of giving detailed instructions, lol.)

  4. Eeepers I'm so excited!! BUT..... this is like WEDDING WEEK! Oh my... Hmmmm. Maybe.... maybe... maybe I could put together a post way beforehand and hit de Publish button on Sunday or early Monday. :D (I've got a question/idea but maybe I'll just send you off a quick email.)

    And lovely lovely buttons!

    1. Heidi -- you are mad. Utterly mad. On the other hand, a bit of fun to relax in the midst of wedding prep is a good idea! I've replied to your email :-)

(And after all, Jane Austen herself said we could run mad as often as we like, as long as we do not faint.)

    1. Livia Rachelle, you ARE due for a re-read! I haven't read them since I led the read-along a couple years ago, but I'm pretty sure I'll be re-reading them next fall :-D

    1. Erudessa, that sounds like such fun! I can't wait for my kids to be old enough so I can read it all aloud to them. I think we should plan a nice, long road trip for it.

    2. I know, this sounds really weird but, I've seen The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, and The Fellowship of the Ring, and it has been a while, but I've seen Return of the King. I think I've seen the Two Towers, but I don't remember any of it if I have.
