I WON! I'm getting published!

I just posted about this over on my other blog too, but I know there are people here who don't follow that one, so I'll post about it here too because I am celebrating.  You can read the official announcement here :-D

Yes, I wrote a western retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story.  Because it's me.  Westerns, westerns everywhere.  They're all I write anymore (aside from the occasional bit of Combat! fanfic, of course), and I love them dearly.  Thanks to lots of advice and encouragement from my writing friends, especially from my endlessly patient mentor, DKoren, I turned in a story I was really proud of, and I figured that even if I didn't win this contest, I would be able to find a home for my story somewhere.  But I won!  Yippee-ki-yay!

I've got quite a bit of editing to do in the next few months, of course, but this summer, people will be able to buy a book containing a story I wrote, and that is an absolute dream come true.  Here's what it will look like:

Isn't it lovely?  I love the fall-like color scheme.  There will be an audio version too, which is so groovy.  Anyway, I will probably post more about this in the future, but mostly over on Hamlette's Soliloquy, so if you want updates and such, please follow that blog too.

    1. Erudessa, well, that's because I'm sneaky and don't use my real name on my blogs. Anyway, thanks! Aren't westerns great fun?

    2. :) I am so happy for you!!

Oh yes!!!! I swim in westerns!!! My favorite Western authors are Louis L'Amour and B. M. Bower.

    3. Erudessa, I have never read anything by Bower -- any recommendations? I'll see if my library has any of his books. I have read more Zane Grey than Louis L'Amour, though I've been reading more of both lately than ever before. Gotta study the greats, right?

    4. :) Bower is actually a female and most of her books are in the public domain. I get them from Project Gutenberg. The one that I recommend you read first, is Chip, of the Flying U. It is side splittingly hilarious and it kept me in stitches the entire time I was reading it.

    5. Erudessa, thanks for the clarification! I checked Amazon, and Chip, of the Flying U was free for Kindle right now, so I've snatched it up, and when I finish the two Kindle books I've got in my queue right now, I'll give it a try :-D

  3. Congratulations! That is sooooooo exciting! I will be sure to purchase a copy when it comes out. Bloggers need to support each other, right? :-) Do you have a second project in the works, or am I asking you to give up secrets? In any case, a virtual high-five for this wonderful accomplishment!

I always have writing projects going. Right now I'm working on revising a western YA novel, and I have two more novels in various stages of planning, with ideas for two more besides those... stories don't stop, heh. Thanks for the virtual high-five!

    1. Thanks, Ruth! I write in the evenings after the kids go to bed -- if I stay up late, I can get a good 90 minutes to 2 hours in. And most Saturday mornings, I either go see a movie by myself or go to Starbucks by myself to write. And that's how I do it, just make the time. I can blog with my kids around, in spare minutes while food cooks or after school is done or whatever, but to write fiction I need to not have them around or else I'll pay attention to them instead :-) Cuz they're even more fun!
