My First Reading Challenges

I've decided to sign up for two reading challenges for next year.  I know lots of bloggers who participate in such things, and I thought it would be fun to try myself.  So I'm signing up for two of them, both aimed at getting through some of the books on my to-read list.

I keep a reading list on my library's website, and it has ninety-three books on it.  Yes.  Ninety-three.  Clearly, it's time to get serious about digging into those.  So I'm signing up for the I Love Library Books Reading Challenge hosted by the Book Dragon's Lair.  I'm choosing the "chapter book" level for 12 books.  That means I need to check out 12 books from the library and read them over the course of 2014.  I think I can do that.  I might even bump up to a higher level, who knows.  Either way, it'll be a nice chunk out of that reading list.

I also have a couple of shelves-worth of books here at home that I have not read yet.  I'd like to work through a bunch of those too, so I'm signing up for the Mount TBR Reading Challenge hosted by My Reader's Block.  I'm aiming for the "Pike's Peak" level, which also involves 12 books.  Again, I may surpass that, but between these two challenges, I'll be reading 2 books a month on top of continuing my Lord of the Rings read-along here, and that's probably plenty for this busy mommy.

Many thanks to Ruth for telling me about both of these challenges!

  1. Welcome to Mount TBR and good luck with Pike's Peak. And, of course, if you get your climbing groove on, you're more than welcome to tackle a higher mountain (all books from shorter mountains count towards the next climb).

    1. Thank you! I'm hoping to climb higher, but my youngest is weaning, and once I lose nursing time to read, that'll cut way back on my reading time, so I'm aiming low :-)

  2. I love doing reading challenges! This was the first year I've ever been able to do them, and unfortunately I kind of overdid it with all the fun challenges... (I'm sure I would be more than able to tackle them if I wasn't always immersed in school reading!)

    1. There are some really tempting ones out there! Who knows -- I may add another one or two at some point, especially if they can cross over with these two.

  3. This so great! Wow! Ninety-three TBR via the library. Two books a month is pretty good. That's what I worked out all of my challenges to be, too. (And it helped that the Mount TBR allowed crossovers).

    1. Two books a month does feel do-able, as long as they're not bricks. This year so far, I've read 48 (!), not counting the three I'm in the middle of right now. But I don't expect to match that next year. So I figure aiming for half as many is a good goal.

    2. And it's actually 94 on my library list now. People need to stop writing books for a few years so I can catch up!!!!

  4. Good luck! I didn't get nearly as far as I would have liked w/ my challenges this year!

    1. Thanks! I'm trying to start small so I don't get discouraged.
