DeleteOlivia, I had the Katy books sitting on my shelves for several years, then read them all while I was laid up with my broken arm. They were the perfect sort of light comfort reads!
DeleteI've only read The Prisoner of Zenda out of all those but I've read a couple of Rafael Sabatinis's books that I enjoyed.
ReplyDelete2022 brought me some new authors - Alison Weir, Mary Stewart & Georgette Heyer. I liked them enough that I'll definitely be reading more from them.
I just love that there are so many excellent authors yet to be discovered. :)

DeleteI like Georgette Heyer! Well, I like her Regency romances. So frothy and fun. Haven't enjoyed her mysteries as much.
I hear good things about Mary Stewart, and I keep my eye out for her at used book stores and such.
Yes, isn't it marvelous that even when you've been reading for decades, you can still discover new authors to enjoy? I love that!
What category is slice of life? I love it.
ReplyDeleteIvy Miranda, "slice-of-life" books are the ones where you just kind of follow the characters through their day-to-day lives. They have little adventures in each chapter, but there's not one central plot to the book. So, think Anne of Green Gables and Caddie Woodlawn and Cranford and The Railway Children. Here's the Wikipedia definition, if that helps.
DeleteI read What Katy Did a long time ago when I was a kid, but I remember enjoying it. My sister is actually called Katy and my mum mentioned that this was one she liked as a kid too so I wonder if that's where the name idea came from!

Heartland, oh, that's cool that your mom might have gotten your sister's name from the Katy books! They are charming. (My daughters have the middle names 'Anne' and 'Jane' for Anne Shirley and Jane Eyre, so I completely understand naming people after book characters!)
