I wanted to read 55 books. I read 68! Huzzah!
I wanted to read at least 12 classics for my fourth Classics Club list. I read 15! Sweet!
I also wanted to read at least 12 books about people who are substantially different from myself. And I read 16! Yay!
I also chose 25 books I wanted to read in 2025, some of them rereads and some new reads. I read 7 of them. Epic fail. Didn't even read 1/3 of them. Sigh. Oh well.
Now, time for my 2026 reading goals!
I want to read 13 books about or set during the American Revolution in 2026 to mark our nation's 250th birthday. I'm listing them under #RevolutionaryWarReads on Instagram, if you are curious. I hope to do a post just about that pretty soon.
Once again, I aim to read at least 12 classics and 12 diverse books.
And I'm setting my overall goal at 55 again because I know that will keep me reading but not daunt me.
Have you shared any reading plans or goals for 2026? If so, drop me a link in the comments so I can see what you're planning!

As a whole I'd say your 2025 plan was very successful. Well done! My plans? I plan not to plan, and by that I mostly mean no challenges (other than the ongoing Classics Club one). I'll read mostly for that, 1 or 2 presidential bios, a little Shakespeare, a little Sherlock, and maybe a play and poetry collection. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteJoseph, I think so too :-)
DeletePlanning not to plan is often a good way to go. It's kind of what I ended up doing last year, tbh. Just reading what I wanted to read as I got to it.
Reading for the CC is always a good way to kind of organize what you want to read :-) Have fun!
Well done! I like your 25 Revolutionary War Reads to commemorate our 250th birthday. I can't wait to see your list. Will they be NF only, or will you include literature or historical fiction set during that time period, or literature written during that period, like poet Phillis Wheatley? (I love themed reading lists!) Anyway, I accomplished 62% of my 2025 reading goals, which was shocking. This year I lowered my bar to 40 books because I have some hefty, meaty reads. Here's my link: https://withfreedomandbooks.blogspot.com/2026/01/happy-new-year-2026-reading-goals.html
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruth! I'm working on a post about my Revolutionary War reads right now. They will be a mix of non-fiction and historical fiction.
DeleteI will check out your post! Forty books is still a lovely number of books to read in a year :-D
Oh, I also want to read some Revolution-centric books this year! I have a couple I'm considering, but I need to be more intentional about the list ... So I'd be very interested in your list!
ReplyDeleteRuth, very cool that you also plan to read some Revolutionary War books! I'm working on a post about my plans right now. Hoping to be done with it soon.
DeleteCongrats on the 55!! One day I will revamp how I log my books to be something like this because I love how it looks, but I have to finish my current journal first, and I've had it for 10+ years, so it's probably going to be another 10. XD
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chloe!
DeleteYou could use a whole new journal and just start fresh? No shame in that. Every journey begins with a single step, etc?
