I am pleased to announce that I will be leading a read-along of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility this spring!
We will begin March 1, and I am planning an easy pace of about 6 chapters a week. I hope to post three times a week, discussing two chapters per post. Most of the chapters are quite short, so I think that will be very feasible, and will let us finish up in mid-May.
I hope you will join me! It doesn't matter if you've read Sense and Sensibility before, or never read it -- all will be welcome to celebrate Jane Austen's classic story of family, friendship, and love.
If you'd like to join in, there's no need to sign up, but any cheering you'd like to do in the comments is always welcome :-) Feel free to use any or all of these buttons to spread the word!
Hmmmm....this was my close third fav of Austen. I'm going to keep this in mind and see if I can fit it in as we get closer to March. (I have found so much reading time in my life, I'm adding more books to my TBR.) So, I'll let you know...

DeleteHooray, I’m going to make an effort to clear my reading schedule to prioritize this. It’s about time I read the book, not just enjoy the movie. I’ll be honest, Austen intimidates me a bit, although I do enjoy reading her. I’m just afraid I’ll miss lots of subtext, so a read along is perfect!

DeleteYesss I'm so doing this. I recently listened to Rosamund Pike read S&S on Audible (for the third time). This book is one of my favorites of Jane Austen's works. :)

When I was a student, I particularly liked "Pride and Prejudice", but later on I thoroughly enjoyed Emma Thompson's / Ang Lee's film version of "Sense and Sensibility" (with a very young Kate Winslet, a very young Hugh Grant, a wonderful Alan Rickman (an actor I always liked)) – so it's high time to read the book (just ordered a copy), and to do it like this is even more fun! (And sooo international, yay – looking forward to it from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean ;-)
ReplyDeleteAndrea, the Emma Thompson film version was my introduction to Austen! It came out when I was in my teens, and I remember my mom checking the videotape out of the library so we could watch it. So good.

DeleteWhat a good idea! I've just downloaded Sense and Sensibility onto my Kindle and will enjoy re-reading it! I think it's my favourite of Jane Austen's books!

DeleteStarts Monday... soon! Do we have to read / re-read the first (how many) chapters (preparation, preparation...) – or just delve into it headlong? Will you ask questions / point out certain aspects which we should ponder in advance?
ReplyDeleteAndrea, good questions! I will post an introductory post on Monday, and then after that, I'll post about two chapters together every few days. It's up to you if you want to read the chapters first or my post first -- my posts will have my thoughts & observations, and then a discussion question or two for people to answer if they want to. Very low-key and flexible :-)
DeleteAawwww!!! I wish I had seen this sooner! I'm afraid I'm such a slow reader that I wouldn't be able to catch up but I do want to read S&S soon! Maybe when I do, I'll come back and find your discussion questions.
