Happy Tolkien Week, dear friends! Let the fun begin :-)
Although there will be fewer games this year, I do still have some fun up my sleeve for later this week. But more importantly, here's the 2016 tag! Copy these questions onto your own blog and answer them, add your post to the linky thingie here, and then join me in toasting Bilbo and Frodo -- their birthday is on Thursday! Some of these are repeat questions from past parties, and some are new -- if you want to repeat your answers from a previous year for some of them, you may.
The Tolkien Tag 2016
1. How many books by J.R.R. Tolkien have you read?
2. Have you seen any movies based on them?
3. Are there any scenes/moments that make you cry?
4. Are there any scenes/moments that make you laugh?
5. Have you ever chosen a Middle Earth name for yourself? If so, what is it?
6. Who would you want to party with/marry/fight to the death? (pick three characters)
7. When was the last time you visited Middle Earth, via books or movies?
8. Do you consider Gollum to be a villain? Why or why not?
9. How would you sum up what Tolkien's stories mean to you in one word?
10. List up to ten of your favorite lines/quotes from the books or movies.
Once you've added a link to your post to the linky widget above, leave a comment below so we all know there's something new to read :-) Then follow the links to read other people's posts and celebrate with them! And go enter the giveaway! I will be posting a game later this week, too. If you've got any kind of Tolkieny fun going on at your blog this week, please leave a link in the comments here too so we can join you.
Happy Tolkien Week!
EDIT: You can find a few more badges/buttons in by following this link if you want different ones!
Yay!! Here's to Bilbo and Frodo! I've entered the tag, can't wait to see others' answers!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining, Ekaterina!
DeleteHow exciting! A party is a party, but a Tolkien party...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the questions Hamlette, I cannot wait to answer them.
Miranda Jo
Miranda Jo, hee! You made me giggle with your Emma reference.
DeleteBahaha! I use it far too often.
DeleteEEK! These are GREAT questions! Hopefully I'll be able to answer them. :D
ReplyDeleteOops...maybe I should have waited to comment until after I did the tag. SORRY 'BOUT THAT! :/
DeleteMary Horton, commenting both times is totally fine!
DeleteI just posted my answers this morning. ^_^ It was so much fun!
DeleteThree cheers for Tolkien! :) Just finished the tag.
ReplyDeleteMeredith, yay! I just finished it too :-)
DeleteJust to play by my own rules, here's my comment saying I've linked up to my own tag answers :-) I posted them on my other blog, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI did the tag! Thank you! It was so fun!!
ReplyDeleteMovieCritic, yay! Glad it was fun for you :-) I'm looking forward to reading a bunch of people's posts this afternoon.
DeleteI've finished the tag. I haven't read the books or watched the movies in a while. I need to start my re-read this week!
ReplyDeleteLivia Rachelle, I am in the same boat. I'm feeling pulled to rewatch all 6 movies this fall, though.
DeleteYay!! I plan on filling out a post with the questions, but in the meanwhile here's a Tolkien post I wrote. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks, Cordy! Glad you enjoyed it :-)
DeleteOoh, how fun! :) I don't have a blog, so I thought just for the fun of it, I may add my tag answers here? Okay. ;)
ReplyDelete1. How many books by J.R.R. Tolkien have you read?
Hmm... 4, I think... the Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit, but I've ALSO heard other short stories of his on tape, such as "Farmer Giles of Ham". That's a funny story. ;D
2. Have you seen any movies based on them?
Yes, every single one Peter Jackson put out on LOTR and The Hobbit - and I love every one of them. <3 <3
3. Are there any scenes/moments that make you cry?
A good deal too many, almost... the part when Sam carries Frodo up Mount Doom, and also Boromir's death (and many others, okay!).
4. Are there any scenes/moments that make you laugh?
OH MY GOSH SO MANY. Basically every one with Pippin in it, or Gimli... and Bilbo. His nose twitches are spot on. I always giggle when Legolas and Gimli get all competitive, haha.
5. Have you ever chosen a Middle Earth name for yourself? If so, what is it?
Um, no, not really... I've dressed up as a Middle Earth person for the last two Hobbit movies, and walked all around town and in the cinemas with a bunch of family/friends who ALSO dressed up (we got in the newspaper too, haha) and we all made sure our costumes were actually good quality... I went as a maiden wood elf. :D
6. Who would you want to party with/marry/fight to the death? (pick three characters)
I'd like to party with Pippin and Merry, because they are perfect at entertaining... I'd like to marry Faramir because I love him, duh. And I'd like to fight to the death... well, I can't say I'd LIKE to 'fight to the death' with ANYONE, but my first choice would be Grima, also.
7. When was the last time you visited Middle Earth, via books or movies?
Probably back in April, when I saw the LoTR movies last. IT'S BEEN TOO LONG.
8. Do you consider Gollum to be a villain? Why or why not?
Eeesh, what a question! Well, he's an antagonist, but he's not a villain, in my book. He isn't actively seeking to destroy everybody and everything in his way, his one and only goal is to get his 'precious', and he blindly does whatever it takes to get there. I believe he WAS close to redemption, but he was just too far consumed with the Ring to be able to come back. I sometimes wish he had fallen in love with someone, so that he could have had a distraction, and had something to fight against it with... but alas, who would want to fall in love with Gollum, anyway? ;)
9. How would you sum up what Tolkien's stories mean to you in one word?
IMPOSSIBLE. Okay, okay, I just can't decide... yep. I just CAN'T think of a better word than what you used - hope. Because it just totally IS about hope, and there's no bigger theme throughout it all than that, in my opinion. (And if it didn't have hope in it, I wouldn't like it.)
10. List up to ten of your favorite lines/quotes from the books or movies.
WHAAAAAT. I just instantly forgot all my favourite lines. Well, here goes:
"Anyways, you need people of intelligence in this sort of mission...quest...thing." "Well that rules you out, Pip."
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
"You're late." "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to."
" I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
"Oh... That's nice. Ash on my tomatoes!"
"What's that?" "This, my friend, is a pint." "Do they come in pints?... I'm getting one."
"If in doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose!"
It was a very fun tag. :D
~Miss Meg
Miss Meg, love your answers! I laughed aloud over your WHAAAAAT. I just instantly forgot all my favourite lines. That happens to me all the time.
DeleteI cry over Boromir's death too, but I figured people would know I do since he's my fave LOTR character and all.
I love that you've dressed up to go see the films. I did wear my Green Dragon t-shirt to one of the Hobbit movies, and I think I had a Bard t-shirt in time to wear that to one of my final viewings of TBOTFA, but that's as much as I've managed.
Whoohoo what fun! I'm so in for the party :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us, Elf! It's nice to "meet" you, and I look forward to reading your answers as soon as I have a chance :-)
DeleteHere's to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins!
ReplyDeleteThis was a super fun tag, Hamlette - thanks for creating it!

ReplyDeleteHaha that's fine :)
DeleteWe were on vacation for the past two weeks, and I was doing a lot of this from my phone, and those doggone little links are soooo teensy that it's all too easy to hit the wrong one. I'm so glad you're not irked!
DeleteI DID IT!!!!! Eeee. Oh wow, what a wonderful sense of accomplishment. ;D :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I left my link above, but here it is again so you can just link through from your email. :)
