Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic, via The Broke and the Bookish as usual, is Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR List. So here are the ten books I'm looking the most forward to reading this season!
The Murder of Mary Russell by Laurie R. King -- the latest novel of suspense featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes gets released next month! Just in time for my birthday...
Anne of Windy Poplars by L. M. Montgomery, which I'll be reading next month for the Anne of Green Gables Reading Challenge.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, which I'll be hosting a read-along for starting in late May.
The Shadow on the Mesa by Jackson Gregory, which I just bought on Etsy, and which I don't think is going to have anything to do with the movie by the same title, but I'm eager to find out what it really is about!
Surgeon in Blue: Jonathon Letterman, the Civil War Doctor Who Pioneered Battlefield Care by Scott McGaugh, which I'll be reading for research.
Much Ado About Anne by Heather Vogel Frederick, because since I'm reading all the Anne books this year, I thought now would be a good time to read the next book in the Mother-Daughter Book Club.
For Elise by Hayden Wand, which I just got a Kindle copy of and will start soon.
Code of the West by Zane Grey, because it looks awesome.
The Cherokee Trail by Louis L'Amour, which was the inspiration for one of my favorite TV shows ever, Five Mile Creek.
The Dragon Turn by Shane Peacock, the next-to-last book in the Boy Sherlock Holmes series I've been slowly reading my way through.
We'll see how many of these I actually manage to read this spring :-)
Oh, I absolutely LOVE The Mother-Daughter Book Club series! You'll enjoy Much Ado About Anne, I promise.
ReplyDeleteEmma, I've read a couple of the MDBC, and they're just darling. Looking forward to this one!
DeleteI do enjoy the Mary Russell books though some are definitely better than others. It looks like you have a lot of fun reading ahead of you.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, it's true -- I really didn't care for A Letter of Mary or Justice Hall. The Moor was kind of just okay, too. But the others I either like or downright love.
DeleteSurgeon in Blue sounds interesting! Best wishes with all of these, especially Anne and Jane. :) I wish I had time enough to join all these great events. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jillian! It does sound nifty, doesn't it?
DeleteWell, I sure wish I could join you on that Jane Eyre read-along.
ReplyDeleteOne of my first classics I TRIED to read many years ago, when I started The Thomas Jefferson Education reading plan (which I never finished) was a L'Amour title (I cannot remember which one). The setting was in San Bernardino - where I live. (My library has a whole section of his books for sale. That's why I thought he was from my area, but he's not.) Anyway, I couldn't get into it, and I quit in the middle of it. Now all these years later, I wonder about revisiting it and how I would feel about it.
Ruth, I wish you could too!
DeleteI didn't know you lived in San Bernardino! I've been there, actually, about 10 years ago. Anyway, I've read a couple of L'Amour's books, and liked Hondo particularly well.
Actually, I am in San Bernardino County - Mojave Desert - and I think that is where the story also took place.
DeleteDespite my grandmother's recommendation, I've yet to read a Louis L'amour book- but that might make it to my summer reading list after classes are done. Mary Russell's in the list, too... and I might try joining in that Jane Eyre read-along. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for adding For Else! I was scrolling down the page and pleasantly surprised to see it on here :D
Hayden, L'Amour would be fun for a summer read! And Mary Russell :-) I hope you can join the read-along!!! I'm thinking of starting it on the very last day of May, though I may change it to a bit earlier. All depends on how wrung-out I am from my Five Magic Spindles rewrites.
DeleteAnd you're welcome :-) It'll be the next Kindle book I start!
Oh, how could you do this to me? A Jane Eyre read-along? Seriously?! I have so much on my reading plate but I just have to try to fit this in. Late May might just work, and your read-along pace is certainly not rushed. Great eclectic list, BTW!
ReplyDeleteCleopatra, I hope you can join in! As I just said in another comment above, I'm thinking of starting it the very last day of May, though I haven't decided For Sure yet. But it will definitely be a leisurely pace -- it'll take us all summer to get through, I'm sure.
DeleteMy lists tend to be eclectic, don't they? I do not confine myself to genre in my reading or movie-watching!
Great list, quite a number of classics.I see Jane Eyre.Is it on your TBR or how does the read-along work?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diana! Jane Eyre is on my TBR, in that I'm planning to re-read it this spring. I'm going to host a read-along of it, which means beginning in late May (exact date yet to be determined, but I'm leaning toward May 31), I will post my thoughts about each individual chapter here, usually one chapter every 3 days, and participants can discuss that chapter with me in the comments. If you want to see how my previous read-alongs have worked, this page has links to the index posts of all the read-alongs I've already hosted. The index post, in turn, has links to each individual post that was part of the read-along. I often ask people to write up guest posts on some aspect or other of the book we're studying, and I usually host a small giveaway at the end to celebrate us completing our journey. Make sense? If that sounds like fun to you, please join us!
DeleteA readalong for Jane Eyre??? Ah! Count me in! And also...Anne of Windy Poplars is amazing. Anne of the Island is my personal favorite but each book of the series seems to get better as Anne ages. Great selection! Thanks for visiting, I'm going to keep an eye on your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteJessica, I'd love to count you in! It's going to be great fun.
DeleteAnne of the Island is delightful -- I'd forgotten a dreadful lot of it, I'm finding, which is making it extra fun. Thank YOU for visiting back! I suspect we could become chums :-)
Cool list. Love the historical themes! Thanks for stopping by at My TTT
ReplyDeleteThanks, Prairie Dances! I do love my history :-)
DeleteI'm unfamiliar with most of these...but I'm a big fan of Jane Eyre.
ReplyDeleteWell, Joseph, if you had to pick one of these to be a fan of, I'm glad you picked Jane Eyre!
DeleteThe Murder of Mary Russel has such a pretty cover! I hope you have fun reading these :)
ReplyDeleteWonderless, it does, doesn't it? I hope so too!
DeleteAhh, the Anne books are so delightful. I devoured them when I was a kid. I remember my mom found the mass market set for me at Costco, of all places.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT, Hamlette!
Rosie, yes, I read them (and had them read to me) multiple times when I was a girl and a teen. High time to revisit them!
DeleteI absolutely ADORE Jane Eyre-- I'm excited to see how your readalong goes! Happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! I think it's going to be a good one, though to be honest, my Shane read-along was so rich and satisfying for me, it's going to be hard for even dear Jane to live up to it! Happy reading to you too :-)
