"Anne" and "Shane"
Remember I said I'm going to read all the Anne books in 2016? I just found a fellow Classics Club member named Elyssa who is hosting a challenge to do the same! So I'll be participating in that next year. Figured some of you might want to as well. This will be part of my reading for the Women's Classic Literature Event.
Also, I am hereby officially announcing that I'm hosting a Shane read-along beginning January 10. This is a short, quick read, but don't think that means it's a light book. Jack Schaefer has packed a lot of gripping story into those pages.
I know we're still in the throes of the Hamlet read-along, but just wanted to give everyone a heads-up about these two events!
You're planning to read the Anne of Green Gables series, too? I've loved what I've read, but never finished it, so that was also my 2016 goal. :)

DeleteI put the first 9 Anne books on the 50 Classics on my growing list. They're all new to me. I'm looking into doubles & trebles, like the Oz books to match with these.I was reading at college level in 7th grade,so
I missed a bunch of what would've been typical for a kid.
I'm planning to have the list ready to officially start 1/10. I'm roughly with 35 women authors &
15 men. For the men, I want to see if I can choose books with eccentric female characters, like Miss Havisham.
~Kelda
Meredith, yes! I've read them all before, but most of them not since I was a teen. Going to be such a delightful year!
DeleteKelda, very cool! I have no idea what you're going to think of these books, but I'm excited that you're willing to try them :-)
DeleteI'm so glad you're joining :) This is going to be so much fun!
ReplyDeleteElyssa, it really is! Are you going to do any kind of link-up where people who've reviewed them on their blogs could share links? Just wondering!
DeleteYes ma'am, I'll have a link up for each book :)
DeleteSounds good, Elyssa! Thanks for letting me know :-)
DeleteOoooohhhh!! Looks like FUN!! I want to read the Anne books next year, but I have one WEEE little problem.......I don't have ANY of the books!! I could get them on Kindle off of Project Gutenberg, but those are books that I would kind of like to have in hard copy!
ReplyDeleteErudessa... could you ask for them for Christmas? I agree these are books one wants to have "for real" :-)
DeleteI could!!
DeleteI've been wanting to re-read all the Anne books, so I am going to take part in the challenge. It's always fun to read along with others, so thanks for the heads-up about the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI'll also be participating in your Jane Eyre read-along next year.
2016 is shaping up to be a women's literature event for me.
Have a great day,
Patti
Patti, that's great fun! And I look forward to good discussions of Jane Eyre with you. It's my favorite novel, so I'm pretty excited about hosting a read-along for it.
DeleteI will definitely be following this! I probably won't read all the Anne books this year, but I might read a couple titles by Montgomery. I do own every Anne book except The Blythes one. :)
ReplyDeleteJillian, I'll look forward to your perspicacious comments :-)
DeleteI love your read-a-longs because I can read a book slowly, enjoy it, and it's fits into my school schedule.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Shane only once this past year for the first time and it was amazing! I remember you once mentioning during the western week about this book, and now I have an excuse to actually read it.
I'll also be joining the Jane Eyre read-a-long. I've only read the book once, so I would love to catch details when I read it again.
I would love to read the Anne books again because I forget a lot of what happened. I was younger when I read them, so I think I missed a lot of ideas. It would be interesting to look upon Anne with a more adult mindset. I'm not sure if I'll be able to read the Anne books with you. How will you be doing that? I'm just curious to see if it will fit into my schedule. Or what I think my schedule will be because I'm taking and AP class along with two honors classes.
Ekaterina, thank you! That's nice to hear. Especially since feedback like that helps me feel like I don't need to pressure myself to zoom through a book because people are waiting for me.
DeleteI'm so glad you'll be joining both of my upcoming readalongs! I always enjoy your take on things.
Elyssa, who is running the Anne challenge, said she will have a link-up for people to share their reviews of each Anne book, and it's kind of just "read-at-your-own-speed" I think. Her blog post about it is here. I tentatively plan to just read one a month, including The Blythes are Quoted and the two Chronicles of Avonlea books. That gets me through November, and my December is always hectic so I might not have time for any others. We'll see! But there is no set schedule at all for it, just read some Anne books during 2016.
