We Interrupt This Blog Party to Bring You... Gall Stones?!

Um, yeah, so the reason there was no game for the Tolkien party yesterday was because Tuesday afternoon, I ended up at the ER after a sudden onset of abdominal pain.  Turned out I had gall stones, so I had my gallbladder out yesterday.  So unexpected!!!  But I do have a family history of gallbladder problems going back several generations.  Anyway, um, I'm still in the hospital right now, but should be going home later today.  Meanwhile, I'm posting a game!  Happily, I got most of this party set up before it even started, so I don't have to do anything but hit "publish" on the games :-)

Thank the Lord that this was not something unfixable, that I can live without a gall bladder, that I only had to spend two nights in the hospital.  I was pretty scared when I had the attack, that it might be something way more serious like a heart attack.  But I'm doing really well, and enjoying having some cable TV to watch :-)  I'm on my fifth straight episode of NCIS, only two of which I'd ever seen before, so that's been fun!  Even got to watch an ep of Sean Bean's new show Legends last night.  Always a silver lining, right?

Just wanted to let you know that the party is NOT over!  Just had a little glitch.

    1. I know! It's been surreal, to be honest. Like stepping into an alternate universe. Thanks for the prayers! Quick healing would be great, with my three little mice running around needing their mommy.

  2. Wow! I am glad to see that you are in good spirits after such a surgery - or glitch, as you call it. And how NICE of them to keep you in the hospital for two days. They kicked me out within hours of my surgery, and I was down for like five days. Couldn't walk or eat. Forget blogging. (I think the meds made me extra sick.) Well, anyway, speedy recovery to you.

    1. Wow, really? How awful! Though one of my nights there was before the surgery, and one after. They had to keep me to do more tests to see if I needed another procedure done or if the gall bladder removal was sufficient.

So I came home yesterday afternoon, and I can walk unassisted, and eat small meals. My meds make me loopy and a little woozy, so my hubby does help me up and down the stairs, but they keep the pain at bay, so yay!

Anyway, thanks! So far, so good.

    1. Thanks for the prayers! I am doing a LOT better today -- yesterday was a little rough, but today I don't need as much pain medicine and I'm able to read books to the kids and so on. Not just sitting there staring off into space or at the computer or TV. Thank the Lord!

  4. That must have been a shock and very painful. I'm glad the operation went well and you got to go home so quickly.

    1. Yes, it was very surreal to go from having any idea I had gallbladder problems to having it removed.

  5. Oh my goodness! I just saw this, but I'm so happy that you were able to take care of it so quickly and that you're on a good healing path. My mom has been living without a gall bladder for a long time now, so no worries on that front, right?

    1. Yes, I'm really thankful that I followed my instincts and had my hubby take me to the ER rather than saying, "Oh, I'm better now." If I hadn't gone in, I probably would have had another attack in anywhere from hours or days, and probably passed a gallstone all the way into the tube that connects the gallbladder to the pancreas instead of just blocking it, which would have meant I'd have needed another surgery too.

My m-i-l had her gall bladder out like 10 years ago and has been fine without it, other than not being able to eat really greasy foods, which yanno, nobody should eat anyway. My dad had his out a couple years ago, and has been doing fine too. Like I said, I'm so thankful to the Lord that this was not something life-threatening or that would be a chronic problem.

  6. I read this when you posted it, but I hadn't gotten around to commenting til now. I'm so sorry about that. I hope you're doing much better now? So not fun! :( I did think of you often, even if you didn't know it.

    1. Awww, thanks! I'm doing so much better now -- the doctors say I'm healing well, and I've been able to start adding fat back into my diet, little by little. I had half a slice of pizza the other day and it was amaaaaaaaaaazing :-)

      Thanks for thinking of me!
