LOTR Read-Along Giveaway #2

Well, here we are at the end of the second book.  Huzzah!  As promised, here's another celebratory giveaway.  Once again, you don't have to have participated in the read-along to enter, but you'll gain extra points if you've been involved at all.

What am I giving away this time?  A cool little book called Tolkien Trivia:  A Middle-Earth Miscellany by William MacKay.  Here's a picture of the cover:

And here's what it looks like inside:

That shows you how it's set up, with questions on the right-hand page, and the answers to those questions on the reverse of the page so you can't cheat while reading it.  It's simply crammed with nifty tidbits -- I got my husband a copy for Christmas, and we both had so much fun reading it I decided to get another copy to give away here.  So, enter via the widget below, and good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This giveaway runs from today through the end of Monday, April 14, 2014.  I'll draw a winner on April 15.  PLEASE be sure you've provided a CURRENT email address to this Rafflecopter widget so that when I email the winner, they actually get the notification that they've won!  This is open world-wide.  If the winner doesn't respond to my notification within one week (by April 22, 2014, in other words), I will draw a different winner and the first one will be out of luck.

  1. Looks like a ton of fun... :-) And I love the cover!

  2. Oh, and here's for my Tolkien trivia comment! :-) I love listening to the Tolkien Ensemble. They're Danish in origin and the two CD's I've listened to are An Evening in Rivendell and A Night in Rivendell (both also available on Amazon in various combinations and as single tracks). Peter Hall and Caspar Reiff composed most of the music and I think they did an amazing job capturing a distinctive Tolkien flavor. :-) My favorites are Tom Bombadil's Song, The Song of Beren and Luthien, Sam's Rhyme of the Troll, Sam's Song in the Orc-Tower, Gandalf's Song of Lorien, Lament of the Rohirrim, Frodo's Lament for Gandalf, Lament for Boromir, and The Fall of Gil-Galad. Okay, I guess that was a lot. ;-) They're all so amazing though!

...I've just looked them up and Amazon's listings are all mixed up (somehow using the same song listing for both) so it's a bit confusing. But if you can find them they're absolutely great and well worth checking out!

    1. Dude! We have one of their albums! It's called "At Dawn in Rivendell: Selected Songs and Poems from The Lord of the Rings" and the poems are read by... Christopher Lee. Yes. So crazy cool.

    2. Really??? Too neat. It's so fun to find all these things in common! (Sometime it would be great fun to get together and compare notes in person. ;-))

The two I've heard all have music. Are the poems on Dawn in Rivendell set to music?

    3. I know! Who'd expect we both have albums by some obscure European group?

"Dawn in Rivendell" has musical backgrounds for the poems, and also songs sung by someone other than Christopher Lee.

  3. Leave a comment with Tolkien trivia?? Wow... is this an epic giveaway! Unfortunately, I know waaay too much trivia, so picking one piece is going to be hard. Hmm... what's the most obscure one I can think of? Billy Boyd (Pippin) wasn't going to sing at all in the films, yet Ms. Boyens overheard him performing karoke one evening and liked his voice and so persuaded him to perform "Home is Behind" ... which he wrote himself. Or... Frodo destroyed the Ring on March 25th. Or... Tolkien was a pantser and had no idea who Strider was when he appeared at the Prancing Pony. Or... the character of Treebeard was based on C.S. Lewis, who coincidentally had a rather booming voice. Or... that Peter Jackson filmed a wedding for Eowyn and Faramir, yet the footage was never released to the public. Or... yeah, we're getting too far. So much for one. But I can't help it, Hamlette. I love this kind of stuff. Tolkien was a genius. End of story. :)

    1. Also... I wish I had time to participate with the read-along. I'm sooo disappointed to be missing it! Ah... oh, well. I'm loving your posts, though.

    2. Why pick one bit of Trivia? I made this giveaway so you can do the comment-with-trivia once each day.

I didn't know Tolkien was a pantser! Haha, that's funny. Especially regarding such a key character as Aragorn.

And you can always go through the posts again at a later date, when you do have time to read the book. They're not going anywhere.

    3. Better and better! ;)

Okay... Viggo Mortensen originally didn't want the role of Aragorn. It wasn't until his son (Henry, I think it was) convinced him it was a good idea that he took the role! I'm glad he did! Can you imagine anyone else being Aragorn?

      Delete
    4. Hahahaha, actually, I don't love Viggo as Aragorn. He's okay, but I've always wished they'd cast Oded Fehr instead. Of course, Viggo is a lot better than their first choice, Stuart Townsend.

  4. My Tolkien trivia: Peter Jackson has a cameo in all the 5 Tolkien films which have been released so far. In two of them, he is seen eating a carrot (he must love carrots?)

    1. It's very Hitchcockian of him :-D And the ones where he's eating carrots are both in Bree!

    2. I've never seen a Hitchcock actually, but he also appeared in cameos in all his movies?

      Delete
    3. *Gasp!* Well, if you want some recommendations, hit me up. Hitch does a cameo in I think every one of his movies, and he took to making it as early as possible so people would stop looking for him and pay attention to the story instead.

  5. That looks like something right up my alley!

  6. I have that same Tolkien book! I love it :)

  7. I will be posting about the giveaway tomorrow! :)
