Which Austen Character Am I?

I took this quiz five years ago, and came up Elinor Dashwood.  While I do feel I have a lot in common with Elinor, I've never really been satisfied with the answer.  Why?  Because I think I'm really more like Anne Elliot.  That's part of why Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel -- I see so much of myself in Anne and relate to her more than to any of Austen's other heroines, much more so than to Elinor.  So I decided to retake the quiz, to see if my answer has changed at all.  To my great delight, I turned up as Anne this time!  Huzzah!  And I did not try to skew the answers, I promise.  I even passed over a couple that I knew would lead to her, just because they weren't how I truly would answer.

  1. Anne is a delightful character - she's possibly Austen's most selfless. :)

    1. Hmm... not sure if I'm very selfless at all. Anne's also very patient, which I am not always. But we're both very, very loyal and good at waiting.

  2. So glad you ended up with Anne! She's my favorite Austen character too. (There we go again! ;) When I originally took the quiz I so wanted to end up with her, but I believe I came out with.....hmmmmm. Who was it? YOU KNOW WHAT?! I totally think I was Eleanor last time too!!! Okay this is just getting funny. I'm not complaining mind you! :D

    1. Wow! No kidding? That's just cool. Take it again, maybe you'll get Anne instead this time too!

  3. I have taken this quiz a few times, and I always end up as Marianne Dashwood. I don't fudge on the answers, but on a few, I've been between a couple answers. Even going back and changing them, I still end up as Marianne...I guess she dominates so much of the other questions that it doesn't matter if I change 3 or 4 answers.

Funny, though, I always WANT to be Elinor!!

Similarly, I did a classic movie actress quiz a few months ago, and I came out as Vivien Leigh. I love Vivien, and I do think we have similar personality traits, but I SO wanted to come out as Grace Kelly. (Can't you see Vivien in the Marianne role and Grace in the Elinor role?)

Bottom line, while I love many aspects of my personality, I guess I wish I was more calm, cool, and level-headed and less emotional and impulsive. How fun that you came out to be exactly who you hoped you'd be.

    1. Vivien as Marianne and Grace as Elinor -- how elegant that would be! Ahhh, we can dream, can't we.

I wish I was more quick-witted and outgoing like Lizzie Bennet, but I know I'm not. I do see some of myself in Catherine Morland too -- I'm pretty quick to take people at face value and make friends more easily than I expect. But I'm not as naive or as easy-going as she is.

  4. The last time I took this quiz, I got Elizabeth Bennet, which is what I usually get. She's so obviously the most like me that there's no reason for me to question or complain. The differences between us are primarily from the time period difference, I think. You know, because it would be possible for me to have male friends that I am not planning to marry. You should take the Austen heroes quiz as well! I took it, choosing the answers most like my husband, and ended up w/ Mr. Knightly! Interesting, right? I wonder how Elizabeth and Knightly would have fared in a story together?

    1. I didn't know the heroes quiz existed! So I took it twice, first choosing the answers that best fit my husband, and then answers based on my taste for fictional men. My husband turns out to be Charles Bingley! Which is really quite apt. My husband is very sweet and a tiny bit naive.

When I chose answers based on my taste for fictional guys, I got Colonel Brandon :-) Awww, I do like him a great deal, and he is sadder and lonelier than any of Austen's other heroes, so I think that was a great match as well.

Thanks for alerting me to that quiz! Very fun.
